My career

I grew up in the canton of Lucerne and attended the high schools in Willisau and Sursee with Matura in 1983 in Sursee. This was followed by an intermediate year with work in a wine speciality shop in Lucerne and a trip of several months through the USA. In 1984 I started my preclinical medical studies in Fribourg. I then completed my clinical studies at the University of Bern. During a second year of elective studies at the end of my studies, I spent eight months in Central America where I was first allowed to learn the Spanish language and then worked as a subassistant for several months in a small hospital in the mountains of Guatemala, in Huehuetenango. I completed my studies in 1991 with a state examination.
Early on I recognized my passion for surgical subjects, especially plastic surgery and hand surgery. I enjoyed my basic surgical training for 4 years as a specialist assistant for general surgery in Sursee and at the Kantonsspital Aarau, and for one year in orthopaedics at the Kantonsspital Fribourg. In 1996, I began my further training as an assistant doctor for plastic and hand surgeons at the Cantonal Hospital in Aarau, where I was able to learn the fascinating subject on a very broad basis. I successfully completed the European and Swiss specialist examinations for plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery in 1999. In January 2000 I transferred to the University Clinic for Hand Surgery at the Inselspital Bern, where I was promoted to senior physician after only 2 months. In 2001, I successfully completed the Swiss specialist exam for hand surgery. In 2002, I was appointed senior physician by the Department of Plastic Surgery, where I was allowed to work in an extremely complex and broad spectrum until 2007. During this time at the Inselspital I completed an Executive MBA for General Management at the University of St Gallen. Then I worked for two years as a consultant for aesthetic surgery in the Hospital Group in Birmingham, a leading clinic for aesthetic surgery in Great Britain, where I was able to perfect my knowledge and skills in aesthetic surgery.

In 2009, together with a colleague, I founded the Centerclinic in Bern, where I have been working with a great deal of passion in my field as a plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon ever since.

Since 2012 I have been a board member of the Swiss Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
