Liposuction involves inserting a cannula (a long, thin tube) through a tiny incision to remove excess, unsightly fat. The goal of the surgery is not to reduce weight but to sculpt the body through the removal of localized fat deposits that typically do not respond to dieting or exercise. Existing fat deposits do not build up after treatment, since the adult body does not produce new fat cells but merely fills or depletes existing ones.
